Welcoming a new baby into the family is an exciting time, but it can also be challenging, especially when you have a toddler. When you throw a newborn photo session into the mix, you may worry about how your older child will behave during a session. However, you shouldn’t let this deter you. I have had many parents approach me with these worries and we still capture amazing photos during their sessions.
The Holm’s family’s in-home newborn session is the perfect example of this. Mom and Dad wondered how their firstborn would react, but we had a blast! And having it in the comfort of their home made it that much more comfortable for everyone. Mom answered a few questions for me on why they chose an in-home session and how they’d do it again.
Q: Why did you decide to do newborn photos in your home?
A: I love having a more natural feel to family photos and what better place to do that than in our home? We move a lot so it is nice to look back and remember where we were at this point in our life.
Q: How old is your firstborn? What was it like having her be a part of the session?
A: Our oldest had recently turned two at the time of our session. Her silly personality kept things light and fun. Don’t get me wrong, there were times that were tricky but it was nothing a little snack and redirecting couldn’t fix. I wouldn’t have changed a thing!
Q: What was your favorite part of your newborn session?
A: Seeing our oldest start to show interest in our newborn. Brittnie was so great at getting them to interact and those turned into some pretty awesome photo memories for us.
Q: What advice would you give a pregnant mama who may be on the fence about having newborn photos done?
A: 1000% do it. The time goes so fast and you’ll be surprised at how quickly you forget just how little they once were.
