What better way to say goodbye to summer than a bright and colorful poolside maternity session? I just love mixing up the typical maternity session and putting a fun spin on things. When Liana said she wanted to do a pool side photoshoot, I was all in. Big-Brother-To-Be, Leo, had other plans though (don’t toddlers always?). They never really made it INTO the pool, but I’d say it still turned out pretty cute.
I personally love the extra touches they brought to the session. They added fun personality to the shoot with dad and Leo’s matching Aloha shirts and mom’s heart shaped sunnies. Krispy Kreme donuts were eaten and flamingos were floating.
Are you thinking of having your own playful documentary based session? Here are some of my best tips:
1.) Pick a fun location for your maternity session
Anything goes! In your home, a favorite playground, the lake, or a camp ground. Pick a location that will be comfortable and fun for everyone in your family.
2.) Bring a few props for your family maternity photoshoot
This is where you can really bring the fun. Fun matching sunglasses, s’mores, cookie decorating kit, bubbles, or anything that your family enjoys.
3.) Let loose and have fun!
This is THE MOST important step. HAVE SOME FUN! Whatever you do or bring, make sure it is something that will bring joy and allow you to create memories during your session. When you have little kids, let them lead the show. You have a vision, but sometimes it’s best to let them do their thing and catch them in action.
